Military Information

What are the educational benefits from joining the military?
Most online schools offer military benefits such as GI Bill acceptance and tuition assistance. Many schools will also offer college credit for service in the armed forces. Here is a list of the top five educational benefits for military service members.

Credit-by-Exam
Credit-by-Exam allows you to earn college-level credits with a program of exams that are accepted by 2,700 colleges. These colleges give credit for CLEP (College Level Examination Program), DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests), and ECE (Excelsior College Exam) tests. Taking into consideration that an average college course can cost you well over $90 per credit, Credit-by-Exam will save you a great deal of time and money. Civilian students will pay more than $40 per exam for these tests, but DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) gives you Credit-by-Exam tests free of charge. How’s that for a change, college for free!

College Credit for Military Experience and Training
If you are a member or a veteran of the military you can use ACE (American Council on Education) recommendation to use academic credit for your military experience and training. Many accredited colleges throughout the country accept ACE recommendations for academic credit. Take full advantage of the program!

Military Tuition Assistance
Tuition Assistance Programs are available to eligible soldiers of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and Reserve. The Government allows each service to pay up to $4,500 a year for 100% of your Tuition Expenses!

GI Bill and VA Benefits
VA benefits including the "New" Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB), VEAP and Reserve GI Bill, are now available for active duty, reserve, and war veterans to assist with educational expenses. The Bill will provide over $40,000 in education benefits for:

College, Business Technical or Vocational Courses
Distance Learning including Correspondence Courses
Certification Tests
Apprenticeship/Job Training
Flight Training

Military Scholarships and Grants
Many sources of college money available include
Military Scholarships, Service Specific Grants, ROTC,and the Army/Navy College Funds, but the sources covered here should be enough to get you started on the path to higher education, and greater opportunity!
